"Whenever you find yourself in any adverse condition, remember you will not come out of it until you grow out of it. You may antagonize adversity and cause it to disappear temporarily, but it will soon return in some other form. Nothing, therefore, is ever gained by such a method. Train yourself to grow out of that which is not good by constantly growing into the greater good; and we invariably grow into that which we think of the most. Think constantly of that which you desire, and you will grow into it."
~From The Pathway of Roses by Christian D. Larson
How often do we find a way to remove ourselves from an uncomfortable situation only to see it inevitably reappear in some other form. Facing challenges are an inevitable aspect of being human. How we deal with challenges define who we are and how we grow. We all have areas where we can grow our lives. Personal growth is just that, it's personal. No one other than you can define what growth is for you. Whether we want to grow our abundance, our knowledge, our commitments, or our family, we must place our awareness on this desire and not waver from it. Now go for it and grow from it!
This speaks to my entire 2009 experience! Thanks for your mindfulness and words of encouragement.
ReplyDeleteDr. Rouse - I know that overheating veggies minimizes if not destroys the nutritional value of veggies so how does this knowlege translate to microwaving food in general? Also my oldest adult Son taught at "Living Foods Institute" and insists that the frozen fruits and vegetables I buy are worthless, nutritionally speaking. I argue that if they are flash frozen as close to harvest as possible they still retain those nutrients. What does the science say?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your time and attention.

ReplyDeleteHelp! I am putting off lunch invitations (or bringing lunch) for the first five weeks of this new program. I want to get a good start and get over cravings. However, I got a lunch invitation I cannot refuse - from my boss, we are taking a colleague out to celebrate her registration as a Professional Engineer (as a P.E. myself I can tell you it is a big deal!) We are going to a Mexican restaurant. What should I do? I don't think I can just take my open-face turkey sandwich with me!

Hi Denise - Please don't get too stressed out about this. if you go to the Mexican place there are many choices - naked fajitas with a side of beans (preferably not refried with lard). Naked fajitas with a salad, tortilla soup minus all the cheese and chips on top - skip the margarita and have some sparkling water with lime :) or iced tea is fine. In general restaurants shouldn't be too stressful - if it is truly not a healthy menu just ask if you can have sides of things you know are okay like a grilled fish or chicken breast over a bed of salad greens with dressing on the side - skip the bread on the table - if they serve huge portions then ask for a to go box at the start of the meal so that you can box up half the food without really missing it.
